Under the skin, there’s plenty more Nissan DNA.

Depending on your location in the big world, you might see the L200, Triton, Strada or Ram 1200 truck. It is Mitsubishi’s next-generation midsize pickup. Whatever you call it it, it will share many components with the Nissan Navara.

It’s only our second time seeing the new Mitsubishi but this is our first glimpse at a prototype with a production-spec body. We first saw the truck in January 2022 as a test mule that used the current truck’s skin but was still covered in camo. It is easy to see the new face, which combines current design elements with a bold grille. The front features C-shaped design elements that are similar to the Outlander SUV’s sides.

The C trim is topped by narrow daytime lights. The C shape houses the main headlights, which are located at the top. The large driving lamps that were on the previous model have been removed. We can now see smaller lenses just above and below the bumper. The most significant change is in the grille. It adopts a mesh design similar the Nissan Navara. Camouflage conceals the Mitsubishi badge in a comical way, but that’s just the nature of testing new cars.

The truck looks familiar from a profile view. However, we expect the new model to have a slightly different shape. This wheelbase is slightly longer than the previous model, which allows for a larger bed and cabin. The rear doesn’t have any major changes. We don’t expect to see any significant changes. While the taillights may be updated, the rear remains the same pickup truck as before.

The no-nonsense tailpipe is available with an integrated sensor for monitoring emissions. We expect that the next L200 will offer a variety of gasoline and diesel engines depending on where it is sold. However, it is possible that plug-in hybrid models with limited electric-only range will be available at some point.

Although it’s still early, we know that Nissan and Mitsubishi are very closely knit at this stage. The interior of the next-gen Navara and the L200 will likely have the same bones as the L200. We won’t be able to reveal any details until next year, so it will likely take some time before we do. This could mean that it is either a 2023 model or a twenty-four model.
