This is for hybrid drivers who need to transport more cargo.

The Toyota Prius hybrid, Prime PHEV are now widely available from dealers. Toyota is now focusing on expanding its lineup with a new generation Prius V wagon. This vehicle is known as the Prius+ in European countries. These spy photos show the long-roof model undergoing a test drive at the Nurburgring. The higher ride height seen in some photos indicates that Toyota may be giving the vehicle CUV-like cues.

Although the test mule is camouflaged in a lot of places, design cues taken from the standard Prius can still be seen. The front styling of the two models is almost identical, with the exception of the complex shape of the headlights.

These changes are most evident in the profile. Toyota’s designers raised the roof to make the rear storage space more spacious than the standard Prius’ fastback. This change requires a complete redesign of the rear pillar. The result is a Prius V with a different silhouette. Customers who prefer a more traditional design to the futuristic Prius V might be attracted by this change.

A taller roof also means major changes at the rear compared to the current Prius. Instead of the existing vertical units, the designers designed a vertical hatchback with horizontal taillights. These pieces have an angular form that matches the front lights.

Our spy believes that Toyota’s test mules are made by grafting the front of the standard model onto a Lexus NX. This could mean that the rear end of the Prius V model could be modified before it arrives in showrooms.

The new wagon will share a powertrain that is similar to the Prius. This would make it a hybrid-assisted, 1.8-liter four cylinder. The wagon has a slightly higher ride height, which gives it a crossover appearance.

The new Prius V will debut next year, and it will be available for purchase in time to support the 2019 model year.
