All of GM’s large SUVs are set to get new models in the 2021 model year
We know Cadillac has begun work on a new generation Escalade. A prototype was seen testing in the wild last December, but it was heavily covered and didn’t allow for us to see much of its new shape. It was thought that the 2020 model year would see the debut of the full-size SUV. However, new reports suggest this will not happen until 2021.
CadillacSociety states that there is no possibility that the range-topping utility car will be released in the next six to eight month. This information was compiled by GM Authority. It also stated that all next-gen GM SUVs would not arrive until 2021.
This means that the Escalade will continue to be available alongside the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Yukon XL. General Motors may launch slightly updated versions of these models, but they will likely only be available in new exterior and interior colors.
Like the other large SUVs from GM, the Escalade will be built on the T1XX platform. It could also receive an exclusive engine for certain trims. GM Authority predicts that the model will get the 4.2 liter Blackwing twin-turbo engine, but no confirmation has been made by the manufacturer.
According to some reports, a hybrid powertrain is also being considered. The current 6.2-liter V8 that produces 420 horsepower (313kilowatts), coupled to a 10-speed auto will likely be carried over to the new model. According to sources close to the matter, Cadillac’s Super Cruise function will be available on the Escalade but it won’t arrive at launch.
The new Escalade will continue to be manufactured at GM’s Arlington plant, Arlington, Texas.
