The Z32 Nissan 300ZX was the first car to be designed with CAD software.
With styling inspired by the original Z 240Z, the new 2023 Nissan Z is a great addition to Nissan’s range. Although the iconic body lines of the 240Z define the new Nissan Z model, what if Nissan took inspiration form a past Z car to design their sports car? TheSketchMonkey, a car designer, is showing us how a modern 300ZX might look.
In 1989, the Z32 300ZX was introduced. It marked a significant departure from previous Nissan Zs. The new Nissan Z 300ZX was actually meant to be a new dawn, a sports car that can compete with other 1900s cars like the Toyota Supra and Mazda RX-7.
The Z32 300ZX was shorter and wider than the Z31 predecessor. It adopted a modern design language that featured smooth lines and sculpted panels. The 3.0-liter VG30DE 3.0-liter V6 had dual-overhead cams and variable timing. It was significantly improved over the previous generation. The VG30DE naturally aspirated version produced 222 horsepower (166 Kilowatts), and 198 lb/ft (268 Newton meters) of torque. Turbo 300ZX was the top-of-the line turbo 300ZX. It featured a twin-turbo VG30DETT 3.0-liter V6 motor that produced an impressive 300 horsepower (224 Kilowatts), and 283 lbft (384 Newton meters) of torque.
The new Nissan Z has a 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbocharged engine.
The Nissan 300ZX turbo-charged car was complex and used cutting-edge technology for better performance. Nissan added exotic features such as rear-wheel steering and adjustable suspension. It was also the first car to use CAD software, making it an innovator in modern car design.
With over 1,000,000 units sold to America in 1990, the Z32 300ZX was a huge success for Nissan. The 300Zx, which was complex and expensive, began to rise at an alarming pace in 1990. This led to the demise of the Z32 300ZX. The 1996 model year sales were only 80,000 units, and the 300ZX was discontinued from the American market.
The Nissan 300ZX, a unique curvy sportscar that Nissan has allowed to push the limits in Z car performance, is today a standout. This iconic icon, which was the first sports car to be designed using CAD software, deserves a new design.
