Nissan 370Z 50th Anniversary Edition Pays Tribute To 240Z Race Car [Update]

The appearance package is reminiscent of the SCCA-dominating SC240Z racer from the early 1970s.

The 2019 New York Auto Show will be a unique one for Nissan. 50 years ago, the automaker first showed the iconic Datsun model 240Z to American buyers. Nissan has created a special package to commemorate the anniversary of the 370Z. It is appropriately named the 50 th Edition.

“It’s not secret that the Datsun 240Z set the stage for Japanese sports cars in America,” stated Ivan Espinosa (Nissan’s corporate vice-president of global product strategy, planning and corporate vice president). “Almost as famous in Z history is Peter Brock’s competition-tuned, 240Z that changed American motorsports. Nissan/Datsun was one of America’s most successful motorsports companies after the BRE 240Z was introduced in 1970. They have won thousands of races over the past 50 years.

Nissan 370Z 50th Anniversary Edition Pays Tribute To 240Z Race Car [Update]

The 50 th Anniversary edition has a unique exterior. Two-tone paint with prominent side strips is a nod to Brock’s 240Z racecar, which dominated SCCA racing back in the 1970s. The Nissan livery will be available in two colors: white with red accents or silver with black accents. This package is available for base, Sport, Sport Touring and Nismo models.

No matter the trim level or color, every car has prominent door strips that run from the headlights to a rear pillar. Special 19-inch wheels are found at each corner and the Z badge on the fenders has special 50 th anniversary branding. The 50 th Anniversary Edition is given an extra treatment inside with 50 _th anniversary logos placed on the tachometers and seat headrests. The updates include unique stitching, an Alcantara-wrapped steering column, floormats and synthetic suede door panel inserts.

The company’s fifth Z car, the 370Z 50 the Anniversary Edition, will receive the anniversary treatment. The 1980 Datsun Datsun280ZX 10 th Anniversary edition was followed by the 1984 300ZX Turbo, which celebrated Nissan/Datsun’s 50 th year as a manufacturer. The company released a 35 th Anniversary edition of the 350Z in 2005. However, the 370Z was new for the 40 th Anniversary edition in 2009.

At a later date, pricing and availability information for the 2020 Nissan 370Z 50 th anniversary edition will be available.
