It could end up being called “The 480Z.”
The 370Z has been on the market for over 10 years and is in dire need of a new replacement. A report by Autocar magazine states that a new Z car will soon be revealed . However, there are no spy photos of the prototype so we would take this rumor with a pinch of salt. These images, which were taken at the Nurburgring in October 2019, show a mysterious test mule. However, it is difficult to determine if a new Z-car is hiding beneath the familiar skin.
Japan’s Spyder7 The next-generation model will be a range-topping model called the 480Z, but it is not likely that the name of the engine’s displacement will be used as it was with the predecessors. The Nissan 480Z will not use a 4.8-liter engine. Instead, the name of the model – 480 hp – is reportedly chosen to show the power that the engine delivers.
This juicy rumor, as previously reported, also suggests that the next Z car will use the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 from the Infiniti. The engine’s output will be a healthy 80 horsepower more than the Q60 Red Sport 400, if the information is correct. Although torque is not listed, it is at 350 pound-feet (475 Newton meters) in Infiniti’s flagship luxury coupe.
Nissan is cash-strapped due to weakening sales. It’s unlikely that the car will be built from scratch as it would require significant investment. Although the design will be drastically altered, the platform will likely make use of existing hardware that has been modified for the sports car in order to reduce costs.
Another report, this one from Japanese Nostalgic Car, sheds light on the vehicle’s styling. The retro-inspired design of Nissan’s Nissan 300ZX (Z32) taillights is what the designers chose. The rear spoiler is likely to be a big one, while the front fascia will accommodate round LED headlights similar to the Fairlady Z’s launched in the late 60s.
The sports car may have a retro feel, but trademark filings indicate that it will also be looking to the future with revised Nissan logos. It is still to be seen if this mix of old and new will make the 370Z replacement a commercial success, especially in a shrinking market for sports cars and during difficult times for Nissan .
