It wasn’t as simple as bolting some tracks to convert the AWD Altima into snowmobile. The 250-hour project was a Nissan in-house effort that required extensive fabrication. To give the treads the proper clearance and reduce snowfall into the driver’s sight line, the sedan’s fenders had to be cut and flared seven inches. Although the suspension was also lifted by three inches, it wasn’t straight. This was done by dropping the front and rear subframes a little, and raising the suspension components a few inches. This was done to ensure that the critical components of the chassis, which are susceptible to wear, wouldn’t be unduly moved out of their proper positions.
