It can produce 600 horsepower.
Many car enthusiasts consider the Nurburgring their ultimate destination and go-to track. This track is also where automakers test and develop future products. It is easily accessible by the public. A new video shows an 2009 Nissan GT-R with 110,000 miles, trying to race the track.
GT-R’s stock configuration is not all-inclusive. The GT-R’s GT-R has an aftermarket Akrapovic exhaust, and other upgrades that increase the car’s power from 480 horsepower (358 Kilowatts) to 430 pound-feet (583 Newton-meters), to closer to 600 HP (447 kW). The car doesn’t seem to like the extra power. The transmission was not kept cool during the lap and went limp in the second half of the lap.
The GT-R manages the course very well, even though the transmission heats up from the high-performance drifting. The GT-R is fast and loud, with a skilled driver behind it – this was his first attempt at driving the GT-R around the Nurburgring. Although it may not have survived the entire Nurburgring, the 12-year-old GT-R still has over 100,000 miles. It is common for older cars to fail, especially when they are being driven so hard.
The GT-R’s performance is impressive, even though additional transmission cooling might be necessary to reduce the temperatures. The supercar from Nissan hasn’t seen much change since its debut in 2009. However, it remains a formidable performance machine. Even though the engine is the same, it produces more power than it did a decade back. Nissan continues to refine the powertrain to make it even better.
