This test program is only available to Texas residents. There are some restrictions.
Nissan wants to explore the possibility of offering a subscription service for vehicle subscriptions. The service is called Nissan Switch and, as the name implies, it’s not as good as similar services offered by other automakers like Volvo. Customers can also opt for a six figure GT_R. But as you can probably guess there are some fine print. We’ll get to that later.
The current test of Nissan Switch is in Houston. Like other similar services, Nissan Switch bundles all the necessary services into one monthly payment. This includes maintenance, insurance, roadside assistance and delivery of vehicles to your address. Nissan Switch is different in that subscribers don’t have to own a vehicle or be bound by a contract. For your daily commutes, you could drive a Leaf during the week and then switch to a Pathfinder on weekends.
A Maxima can be used to drive miles of interstate highways. For those who need trucks, the Titan or Frontier are available. Exciting rides such as the GT-R and 370Z are also available. There are 11 vehicles available in two subscriptions. You can also change your vehicle every day if necessary.
What’s the deal? The Select service is bit expensive, at $699 per month for the entry-level. The Altima and Pathfinder are available to subscribers. Premium adds the Leaf Plus and Murano to the package, as well as Titan and Armada. However, the monthly cost is $899. You’ll have to pay $100 per calendar day to add a GT-R. This is a maximum of seven days. To get things started, Nissan charges $495 for a “membership activation fee”, regardless of your subscription level.
Is it worth the investment in Nissan Switch? The automaker hopes to discover this, at least for those in Houston. The pilot program is open to customers until August 2020 at Nissanswitch.com.
