Nissan Rogue Hybrid gets the Axe for 2020
The next-generation model could see the hybrid return.

Nissan is developing a new generation Rogue , but it will take at least one year before we see it in dealerships. The 2020 model year will see the Japanese manufacturer continue to make the current version of its SUV. It won’t be offered as a hybrid. According to a spokesperson for the company, slow sales of the electrified Rogue were responsible for the SUV’s demise.

Nissan published the pricing details of the 2020 Rogue yesterday. Autoblog found that the hybrid model was not included in the release. For clarification, the publication reached out to Nissan and Kevin Raftery, Nissan spokesperson, confirmed that the Rogue Hybrid was dead for 2020.

Our View on The Rogue Hybrid

Raftery did not provide exact numbers but explained that hybrid SUV sales were only a “small part” of overall Rogue sales. The base Rogue Hybrid SV starts from $28,595, while Rogue’s top-of-the-line SL trim costs $33,885. This is approximately $2,800 more than the base Rogue Hybrid SV trim.

This isn’t a very large figure, but EPA numbers indicate that you will need to drive the Rogue Hybrid 14 years before you see any gas savings. The agency claims that the SUV’s electrified version returns five more mpg than the regular model. This should help you save around $200 per year on fuel costs.

The 2019 Rogue Hybrid features an electrified 2.0-liter engine producing 176 horsepower (131 kW) total. The model will still be available for purchase, but only while stock is available. Although the hybrid may return with the next-generation Rogue, nothing is certain at this time.
