Split personality.
The Nissan Skyline has changed from the car it was. The Infiniti Q50 four-door isn’t as emotional as its R32 and R34 siblings. Nissan showed today two new Skyline trims in an attempt to capture some (and that’s some) this original magic. They are the 400R Sprint Concept, and the Deluxe Advanced Concept.
The Skyline 400R Sprint was designed by Nissan for straight-line speed, as its name suggests. The concept is based on the 400R model, a 400-horsepower version of the Q50 Red Sport in the U.S. The body is covered in matte black and lime green accents, while the number 20 decorates the doors. The Skyline rides on 20-inch forged tires. It also has a new front bumper and rear bumper. A large spoiler at the rear (similar to one on the GT-R Nismo) completes the sporty look.
However, mechanically, there are no changes. The original twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 of the 400R trim is still used in the 400R Sprint concept. It produces 400 horsepower (298 kilowatts), and 350 lb-ft (475 Newton-meters). The Skyline 400R sprint, assuming this concept is as fast as its production sibling, can reach 60 miles an hour (96 km per hour) in 4.5 seconds.
Skyline Deluxe Advanced Concept
The Skyline 400R Sprint is all about speed and sportiness. However, the Skyline Deluxe Advanced is more luxury-oriented. The Skyline Deluxe Advanced is a stylish cruiser, and it comes with Nissan’s ProPilot2.0 safety suite, a luxurious new two-tone leather interior, and a unique two tone paint job on the exterior. It’s not clear if the concept uses the same 400-hp engine that the 400R Sprint or one of the other four- or six-cylinder options from Nissan.
When the Tokyo Auto Salon opens to the public on January 10, 2020, the Nissan Skyline 400R Sprint Sprint and Skyline Deluxe Advanced concepts will be the main attractions. Nissan will also have many other vehicles on display at the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon, including the 50th Anniversary Edition GT-R and Fairlady Z trims (or 370Z), as well as a special van, the NV350, and other Nismo models.
