What can we expect from Nissan at this time?
While Nissan revels in the excitement of its newZ car, Japan’s automaker continues to work out its plans for a green future. A teaser was released by Nissan UK’s Twitter account. It shows a new electric light commercial vehicle that will be debuting on World EV Day, which is scheduled for September 9, 2021.
Below is the embedded social media post that shows an animated display of animation. It forms a familiar van shape and ends with the new Nissan logo.
It includes the caption: “It is written on the stars… Something electrifying will be coming to Nissan’s Light Commercial Vehicles.” “Watch this space… #WorldEVDay#ElectrifyTheWorld” – in case the embedded post isn’t visible above.
We can see that the teaser shows a vehicle with a different shape than the Nissan eNV200 – an electric version of the NV200 van. Nissan has been updating the e-NV200 since 2014.
The e-NV200 used the same 24 kWh lithium battery as the Nissan Leaf. Later, it was upgraded to 40 kWh, increasing its battery capacity by 67 per cent. In comparison to its internal combustion engine-powered counterpart, 30% of the electric commercial vehicle’s components were new.
As with the rest, it’s not surprising that Nissan is bullish about its electrification. Japanese automaker Nissan even released an official sketch for a reimagined Silvia in the green era. This brings back the iconic nameplate without tailpipes.
We will learn more about Nissan’s electric future, but for now we are speculative.
