Nissan Titan To Be Discontinued In Canada: Report

The brand will be focusing on smaller cars for the country.

Since the unveiling of the refreshed Nissan Titan, and TitanXD for 2020’s model year, it has been nearly a year. Nissan’s half-ton and almost-three-quarter-ton trucks are among the biggest vehicles in the automaker’s lineup in North America, but it seems like these massive haulers won’t be sold in Canada for the 2021 model year anymore.

Jennifer McCarthy, Nissan Canada Product Communications Manager, stated that the pickup truck Nissan Titan will not be sold in Canada after model year 2021. She sent an email to The Truth About Car McCarthy said that Nissan Canada will focus on sedans and crossovers, especially the new Rogue and Versa. The plan also includes the newly-unveiled Ariya hybrid crossover, and the smaller Frontier pickup truck. Canada will receive both the Frontier and Ariya next year.

Nissan Titan To Be Discontinued In Canada: Report

The reason for this decision was, as expected, the decline in sales of the Titan family. This is not just in Canada, but also in the U.S. The Detroit Big Three continues its dominance in the full-size truck segment and it isn’t helping Nissan. The Titan’s sales experienced a nearly 50 percent drop in 2019, compared to the year before. There was no improvement in the first half of 2020.

In the U.S., Kevin Raftery (Nissan North America’s communications specialist for SUVs, trucks and commercial vehicles), confirmed to Truth About Cars the Titan will be sold in the U.S. after the 2021 model year.

This is a great relief. If you are reading this from Canada, and you want to buy a Titan next year then you should start researching how to import cars to Canada. There are many resources available, including information about taxes.
