Drivers need to find the Z engaging.

The new Nissan Z sports car is a simple, accessible vehicle that offers a driver-focused experience behind its wheel. According to a report by Mosbil, this includes not using the drive -by-wire Direct adaptive steering system on Infiniti and Nissan vehicles.

The Z ride on modified platform beneath vehicles such as the Q60 Nissan has made the new model more fun for drivers. Z is not about being fastest. It’s not about being the fastest. Motoring Infiniti’s performance-oriented vehicles are known to have a dislike for the Direct Adaptive steering system. Motor1.com’s Jeff Perez wrote that the technology was “light and lifeless and doesn’t give any feedback from traffic.” This is especially noticeable at higher speeds where the vehicle moves aimlessly across the lane, with no sense of direction.

After deciding that there’s no market for the sports car in Europe, Nissan seems to be targeting the North American market with the Z. It could also compete with the Alliance’s Alpine A110, provided it stays around.

The six-speed manual is the most popular choice for those who want a traditional “pure” driving experience. However, an automatic is also available. Rumours abound about a Nismo version that is faster and a convertible.
