No, GM did not tease the Chevy Corvette Electric SUV

Two future Buick models are included.

For years, there have been rumors, rants, and speculation about a Chevy Corvette SUV. It’s not a new idea to expand the Corvette brand outside of the two-door sports car. Bob Lutz , a former GM-staple, even imagined the possibility of a Corvette SUV for $100,000. GM’s CES presentation today featured several new products. some publications speculated that it was not just a Corvette Crossover, but also an all-electronic model. Unfortunately, this is not true.

GM Vice President for Global Design Michael Simcoe stated to The Roadshow the crossovers over his right shoulder (our left, in the photo above), are future Buick models. Although they aren’t the Corvette SUV being speculated about, it does not look like any Buick model. The Buick Electra Concept Teases Brand’s New Look, Electrified Tomorrow was unveiled by the brand in September. However, it is quite different from the GM reveal today. These two new concepts have Corvette-like headlights which may help to clarify the confusion.

No, GM did not tease the Chevy Corvette Electric SUV

The US Buick lineup does not have an EV, but its crossover-oriented lineup makes it an ideal platform to introduce electric vehicles. GM did not provide any information today on the new Buicks, but it did give some details on the Electra crossover design, which may be a preview of what we can expect. The GM Ultium batteries powered the Electra concept. It was capable of delivering more than 372 miles (605 km) with a maximum output of 583 horsepower (435 kilowatts). In 4.3 seconds, the powertrain can propel the Electra up to 100 km/h (62 miles/h)

Chevy has just unveiled the C8 Corvette 2020. This likely sparked new rumors about expanding the brand. They are unlikely to die soon. Ford’s Mustang brand was expanded with the Mach-E all-electric crossover. GM is likely to be closely following this development. General Motors could be affected by Ford’s success or failure. Although many Corvette variants, including an electrified version, are possible, it doesn’t appear that an all-electric Corvette SUV is in the offing.
