However, the future of R8 is still uncertain.
The Audi TT will not last long in this world. Bram Schot, chairman of the board, disclosed that Audi’s slinky sport car was on the verge of becoming obsolete at the annual general meeting. The TT will be replaced by an electric car.
Totally TT
Schot did not give any details on the electric vehicle but he noted that the new “emotive model’s pricing range will be similar to the TT’s. The TT is priced at $44,900 in the U.S. for the entry-level coupe. However, it can cost $80,00 to buy a loaded TTR RS.
If the Volkswagen Golf based TT’s history is any indication, it’s possible that the TT-replacing EV will use the Volkswagen ID.3 as its base. If this is true, it’s likely that the badged EV with four rings will have sexier sheet metal and more power than its VW sibling. This is speculation. We’ll learn more about Audi’s upcoming TT replacement electric car in the coming years.
Audi’s Future in Electricity:
Audi’s entry-level sportscar is losing its internal combustion engine. However, the brand’s flagship sportscar may not be affected. Schot asked if R8 still requires an internal combustion engine in his speech and acknowledged that there is ongoing debate about the future of the mid-engine vehicle.
We are sad to hear that the TT is no more, but we are excited to see how Audi uses its new battery-powered model. If the new Audi sports car is able to carry on the styling legacy of the original TT, and still offers decent straight-line performance, we are sure we will find much to love about it.
