You could even fly off to the moon.
Full disclosure is required before we start. Although the GM Design Instagram account provided the sketch, it is not contextual. Although the only information in the post was a lean and mean quip (though judging from the large face and huge tires, we don’t think it contains the lean part), the data-type-id=”2″ href=”https://www.instagram.com/p/CFeukRTJjKh/”>GM Design Instagram account. Although it does look threatening, it is not as sinister as the GMC DenaliHD dually posted to the account just a few days ago.
This disclosure is provided because we have no idea what the future holds. This includes the headline which suggests that this could be Caddy’s electric SUV preview. Our thoughts are supported by Cadillac’s confirmationthat an Escalade-sized electric people-mover is in the works. This design is part of the automaker’s future product roadmap and it’s certainly larger than the Liriq hybrid EV-crossover .
It’s all great, but just because we are big doesn’t necessarily mean that we are looking at future products. We present the GMC Hummer to make this connection. Cadillac has confirmed that the platform will be its new big electric SUV. Although the Hummer’s unveiling is set for October 20, a teaser photo (below), bears at least some resemblance with the robust Cadillac design (above). It’s a very thin connection, but it’s still interesting enough for those outside GM’s inner circle.
Do we believe this is a carbon copy from a future Cadillac model, however? No. It’s hard to believe that a GM official social media account could drop such a bombshell, even if it was a random sketch. Stranger things have happened.
We do see design cues that are similar to the Lyriq. They also have a wider grille opening and an overall width similar to the GMC Hummer teaser. There is enough evidence to raise eyebrows, especially when you consider that we know of an electric Caddy built from a Hummer.
