Chevy provided the design sketch, so it must be true to life.
Although production of the new Corvette Stingray mid-engined Corvette Stingray was delayed to February 2020 it appears that Chevy is eager to show us the Z06, or at least it seems so. Our Roadshow colleagues managed to obtain a sketch of the interior straight from Chevy with the bowtie emblem.
The adjacent image is not the design sketches that C8 team members presented back in August at the National Corvette Museum’s 25 th Anniversary celebration. While the slideshows were focused on the car’s exterior, how it evolved over time, there were some images of the interior. However, this image has never been seen before.
The Compare Images tool below shows the yet to be confirmed Z06 next a fully loaded Stingray 3LT and the carbon fiber interior trim.
The “Z06” badge at the bottom of your steering wheel is the most obvious sign that we are dealing with an eighth-generation Corvette. Roadshow has dissected the image and found that the track layout in the digital instrument cluster depicts Mugello Circuit, Italy. Additionally, the driver’s display shows “ARM”, while the button below the airbag of the steering wheel says “Spec Mode”.
There are a few other details we noticed that are worth noting, like the increased use of carbon fiber throughout. The optional $1,500 carbon-fiber interior trim is available on the regular Corvette. You won’t get as many carbon fiber as you see here because the upgrade for Stingray includes only the instrument cluster surround as well as the console/door switch plate. It’s visible on the dashboard and center console, as well as the shift paddles, steering wheel and dial. This would be logical considering the Z06’s higher position in the range.
You’ll see the name Tristan Murphy as well as his signature to the right of the sketch. Although his LinkedIn profile doesn’t mention that name, it is likely that it does. He has been with General Motors for 13 and 6 months. After serving several years as the Lead Creative Design Designer, he is now Interior Design Manager.
This doesn’t mean that the Corvette Z06 will have the same interior. The sketch may simply be an illustration of what a designer sees for a hardcore ‘Vette. It could be that the interior is faithful to the production C8 Stingray, which could indicate that Chevy intends this for its hotter derivative.
