Official launch of 2017 Suzuki Swift

The fourth generation features a charming exterior design and an elegant interior cabin.

The all-new Suzuki Swift’s design is not surprising to many of us. We have seen it in spy photos and leaks. The new Suzuki Swift is a stylish city car, and builds on the success stories of its predecessors which sold more than 5.3 millions units since 2004.

Although Suzuki isn’t giving too many details, we know that the information available so far. The adjacent gallery shows the Japanese version which will go on sale January 4 . The JDM-spec Swift will be powered by a turbocharged 1.0 liter engine and a six-speed auto transmission. Although there is no information on the power of this engine, a leak brochure states that it will produce 112 horsepower (82 kW).

Japanese buyers can choose from six trim levels: RSt and Hybrid RS. The new Suzuki supermini will be available with either a five-speed manual or a six speed auto depending on the model. Along with the 1.2-liter engine and the 1.0-liter unit, both front- and all-wheel-drive versions will be offered.

Suzuki’s next-gen Swift will be sold in the domestic market with an optional safety package. It includes a Dual Sensor Brake Support system (DSBS), which reduces the risk of collision, a first for Suzuki. The package includes a monocular camera, a laser sensor, and high-beam assistance. This allows the car to automatically change from a high beam to a lower beam depending on what is ahead. The optional kit also includes adaptive cruise control, which can keep the supermini in a safe distance to the vehicle in front. All trims will have the option of adaptive cruise control, except for the XG.

The Swift Sport, which is pictured above in camouflaged prototype form, will be added to the family. It will sport a more aggressive body design and have dual exhaust tips. The hot hatch will be equipped with a turbocharged, 1.4-liter gasoline engine to replace the naturally aspirated, 1.6-liter unit. It will be borrowed from the Vitara S, which produces 140 hp (103kW) and 162lb-ft (220Nm), but could be modified for the new application.

Suzuki may have the Swift powered up for Geneva, or it might wait until September’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
