Evidently, the reveal is near.
The BMW X5 next-generation could be in these photos, although they are not directly from the Bavarian automaker. The Russian website Autoreview released these images with the internal code G05 and they allegedly show the new SUV in all its glory.
Although we are unable to confirm that these images are official leaks, there are a few details that make us believe they are actual and not just renderings. For example, the shape and size the front grille and the bumper’s rear lighting clusters and reflectors match what we have seen in the million of spy photos.
We are not surprised by the design if we assume that this is the real deal. The new X5 almost looks like a facelift to the model currently on sale. However, the most noticeable changes are seen at the rear. Leaked photos show an X5 30dxDrive variant with the M sports package. It features aggressive bumpers as well as massive exhaust pipes.
The G05 X5 will be moving to the CLAR architecture. This is the same CLAR architecture used by the 7Series and 5Series. New suspension and chassis are used in the SUV, which is “virtually unrivalled within the competitive field” and expected to reduce weight by up to 440 pounds (200 kg) compared to the previous model.
Depending on the market, there will be four, six, and eight-cylinder gasoline or diesel engines under the hood. The US will offer a 3.0-liter straight-6 and a 4.4 liter V8, while European customers will get a 3.0-liter diesel with a variety of power outputs including the M50d quad-turbo diesel. The motor for the X5M flagship will be shared with the M5.
