Official Sketches Show Jeep Yuntu Concept Looking Very Promising

The SUV, which seats seven people, appears to be powered by a plug-in hybrid engine.

Jeep has teased its Shanghai-bound concept for several weeks. But, we now have high-resolution images. The three-row SUV, believed to be called “Yuntu”, has a futuristic exterior design and is rugged as an SUV should.

The windscreen is raked in front. A pair of slim LED headlights flank the corporate seven-slot grille. Below, you’ll find a pair tow hooks and an aluminum underbody protector. Side profile features the square wheel arches and plastic body cladding. The sleek mirrors help to emphasize that this is a concept model and not a production model.

The handles look joined at the middle, which could only be a sign that the Yuntu is equipped with suicide doors. The large two-tone alloy wheels and off-road tires are also noticeable, as is the flat roof with a pair black rails. Although technical specifications are not yet available, the “PHEV” label on the front doors suggests that the concept will be powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Looking towards the rear, you will see thin taillight clusters that are slightly angled towards the sides and a window. The aluminum underbody protection is located between the slim aluminum exhaust tips. The most interesting thing about the Yuntu’s derriere, is that it seems to have a vertically divided tailgate considering that there appears to be a small gap at the middle.

The concept may be more than just a showpiece. Reports from China indicate that this Jeep three row SUV will eventually become a production model thanks to the GAC-Fiat joint venture.

Auto Shanghai 2017 will reveal the full story next Wednesday. Jeep will hopefully shed some light on whether the Yuntu has any chance of making it to the assembly line in future.
