Although the interior is familiar, it features higher quality materials and a more modern design. Highlights include LED ambient lighting, a freestanding iDrive screen, gloss black accents, and Oxide Silver or Aluminum Hexagon wood trim. The model has a larger dimensions which allows for more interior space and a boot that can store up to 1,870 Liters (66 cubic feet) worth of luggage.
You have the option of comfort/sport seats, a second row with a recliner and heated/ventilated front seats. You can add four-zone automatic climate control to the model, a third row seat from Harman Kardon, Bang & Olufsen, and a rear entertainment system with two “tablet style” displays.
The model will launch with three engines. The X5 xDrive50i has a twin-turbo 4.4 liter V8. It produces 450 HP (329 kW) and 650Nm (479 lbft) of torque. The model can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.0 seconds before reaching a maximum speed of 250 km/h (155 MPH). Owners can expect 10.4 to 10.5 L/100km (26.9 to 27.2 mpg UK/ 22.4 to 22.6 mpg US), with CO2 emissions between 242 and 244 g/km.
The X5 xDrive30d is next with a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo six cylinder diesel engine. It produces 258 HP (190 kW), and 560 Nm (413 lbft) of torque. The crossover can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, and reach a maximum speed of 230 km/h (143 MPH). The X5 xDrive30d’s fuel-efficient engine averages 6.2 L/100 km (45.6 mpg UK / 37.9 mpg US), with CO2 emissions ranging from 162 to 164 g/km.
BMW offers several suspension options for handling. Dynamic Drive active rolling stabilization is included in the Dynamic adaptive suspension package, while Comfort active suspension packages include a rear air suspension with Dynamic Damper Control. The Professional adaptive suspension package combines both Dynamic and Comfort suspension packages to offer the best of both. The M Sport package adds an Adaptive M suspension to the model. It has Dynamic Damper control, rear air suspension, and sportier tuning.
The 2014 BMW X5 is being built in Spartanburg (South Carolina) and Germany deliveries are planned for November.
