Volkswagen’s limited edition Polo R WRC Street has been unveiled. It can reach a top speed exceeding 151 mph.

Volkswagen has revealed the Polo R WRC Street limited edition, following the prototype that was shown back in May at Worthersee’s 31st GTI meeting.

It is the fastest Polo ever produced and has remained nearly unchanged from the original concept. It is based on the fifth-gen Polo. It comes with the Golf GTI’s 4-cylinder turbo gasoline engine, 2.0-liter. This produces 217 horsepower (162 kW), and 258 lb.ft (349 Nm).

The front wheels are powered by a 6-speed manual transmission. This allows the fastest Polo to sprint from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in just 6.4 seconds. It can also reach a maximum speed of 151 miles (243 km/h). Volkswagen claims it can achieve 31.6 mpg (38 MPG UK or 7.4 Liters/100 km) and CO2 emissions of just 174g/km.

The car weighs in at 1,324kg (2,919 lbs), including the driver (68 kg), luggage (7kg) and a full 90 percent fuel tank. It rides on alloy wheels of 18 inches with 215/35 R18 tires. The car also has 16-inch disc brakes. It comes with WRC-badged seat covers and Alcantara-wrapped steering wheels, racing-style pedals, and a black roofliner.

A bespoke, rally-inspired lower spoiler features big air inlets, rear diffuser, and spoiler at the rear. It has the same blue/grey livery of its WRC sibling, and several “R” or “WRC” badges.

The Volkswagen Polo R WRC Street is limited to 2,500 units and will only be available in left-hand drive. It will retail for 33,900 EUR. Orders can be placed starting tomorrow and deliveries will begin in September 2013.
