Bugatti announced that the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse is now the fastest convertible in the World.
Chinese racing driver Anthony Liu managed to reach a speed of 408.84 km/h (254.04 miles) on the Ehra-Lessien testing grounds. Liu said that it was an exciting moment. Although we had previously clocked speeds of 400 km/h (248 miles per hour), I was proud to be able to surpass these incredible speeds again. Even at high speeds, the car is incredibly stable and comfortable. The open top allows you to really hear the engine’s sound and, yet, I was not affected by the wind at higher speeds.
Bugatti will unveil a Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse World Record Car Edition (WRC) to celebrate the occasion at the Shanghai Motor Show. It will be identical to the standard model and feature a quad-turbocharged W16 7.9-liter engine producing 1,200 HP (882kW) and 1,500Nm (1,106lb-ft). The model can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds thanks to the seven-speed dual clutch transmission.
Only eight WRCs are planned and pricing for pre-tax starts at EUR1.99 (PS1.69) million.
