America’s favourite off-road brand will launch 10 new models or refresh existing models and bring back the Wagoneer brand.
Michael Manley, the head of Jeep, and RAM brands believes that electrification will decrease the margins for automakers in the near future. However, this technology is what the American off-road icon has made its priority in its next five year strategic plan. Jeep today announced that it will be launching two new products every year starting now and ending in 2022. It will also have 10 PHEVs, four battery-electric vehicles, and a total of five PHEVs by the end of 2022.
One slide from the presentation of the company (below), suggested that a more off-road-oriented Cherokee Deserthawk might be on the horizon. Jeep would make it more suited to sand than its rock-crawling Trailhawk models.
The company plans to make electrification a key part of its future, and will offer customers an electrification version of every model by 2021. Jeep will introduce Level 3 autonomous technologies around the same time. Although diesel engines will be gradually eliminated from the brand’s lineup of vehicles, there is no timetable.
Between now and 2022 Jeep will introduce a new generation Renegade and an all-electric Wrangler. A second small crossover will be added to the family below the Renegade. The Compass will get a mid-cycle refresh.
Jeep plans to expand its product line by launching three new products in new markets. The marque will launch a pickup trucks and three-row E segment large SUVs. It also plans to revive the Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer duo.
Jeep will invest heavily in new models and increased production capacity to meet the growing SUV and crossover market. The brand will also expand its dealer network.
Jeep will not only focus on its off-road capabilities, but also their on-road performance. Jeep hopes to create an everyday car that is all-weather capable, fuel efficient, and offers stress-free mobility. Jeep’s future urban utility vehicles will combine the best of both cars and SUVs.
