Volkswagen has unveiled the highly-anticipated 2010 Scirocco R.
The new Scirocco’s engine is a modified version 2.0-liter Golf GTI engine that produces 265 horsepower and 350 Nm (258lb-ft) respectively. The standard six-speed manual transmission, or the optional dual clutch DSG gearbox, sends power to the front wheels. This unique setup allows the Scirocco R to reach a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph) in just 6.5 seconds.
Volkswagen began to upgrade the R with many upgrades. Engineers included a lowered sports suspension with stronger dampers and springs, an electronic XDS diff and huge 345mm (13.6 inches) front brakes and 310mm (12.2-inch rear brakes).
VW added a new front bumper to the Scirocco, along with LED daytime running lamps, side skirts, and a modified grille. Scirocco R gets a revised rear bumper, roof spoiler and darker tail lights.
The interior gets a minor makeover with sporty bucket seats, an updated instrument cluster, a flat-bottomed steering wheel and lots of aluminum trim.
The new Scirocco R will be arriving at European VW dealers this autumn.
