Opel has revealed new details about its 1.4-liter Ecotec Direct Injection Turbo engine, which will debut in the 2016 Astra.

Opel has revealed new details about its 1.4-liter Ecotec Direct Injection Turbo motor that will debut in the 2016 Astra.

The all-aluminum four cylinder engine, described as the “big brother” of the turbocharged 1.0 liter three-cylinder engine powering the Adam and Corsa will produce 125 PS (92kW) and 150 PS (1110kW) respectively. The engine will have Start/Stop technology, which will allow the Astra to consume as low as 4.9 L/100 km (48 mpg US/57.6 UK) and emit CO2 emissions of only 114 grams/km.

Opel claims that engineers were very careful to minimize noise and vibration during engine development. It has a split oil pan, a sound-absorbing cam cover, and other features.

The engine is in production. Szentgotthard’s plant recently reached a milestone when they built their eighth millionth engine. It was a 1.4-liter Ecotec DirectInjection Turbo.
