Autobahn high speed runs should only ever be attempted by experienced drivers.
German Autobahn is one the few highways that has sections with no speed limits. Safety is not a concern here, mainly because Autobahn users are disciplined and know how keep the passing lane clear.
According to a poll, the majority in Germany favored the imposition of a speed limit for the Autobahn based on safety and emissions.
However, mishaps can still happen on the highway’s high-speed sections. One of the mishaps was captured on camera while doing a top speed ride aboard an Alpina B5 touring.
The video embedded above shows AutoTopNL trying to run a top-speed in an Alpina wagon. However, suddenly an Opel Astra Convertible attempted to cut off the driver (around the 5-minute mark).
The red top-down Astra seemed to be trying overtake the slower truck in front. This was normal. He didn’t notice the approaching 613-horsepower Alpina Touring.
Alpina driver was able tee to halt in time to avoid collision. The driver of the Astra was not happy with what had happened and he made a gesture of support. We think it was an unwarranted reaction.
It was a good thing that the Alpina wasn’t running at full speed when the incident occurred. The convertible was just ahead of him, slowing him down to 124 mph (200 km/h).
It would have been different if the Alpina had reached its top speed of 200 mph (322 km/h). The driver reached that speed at the end of the video. It’s pretty cool.
