Opel Astra OPC line Sport Pack isn’t so sporty

Unfortunately, there are no mechanical upgrades.

Opel has been selling OPC Line packages for quite some time and now it is the Astra K’s turn to receive the all-show-without-the-extra-go goodies. Opel wants to attract more Astra buyers looking for a sportier design and regular engine. While we wait patiently for the version, Opel has also released the full-blown OPC model.

Opel describes the OPC Line Sport Pack as giving the Astra a bold style. It costs EUR1,150 in Germany, and includes a number of cosmetic upgrades. The front bumper features a generous cutout and many horizontal lines, instead of the usual spot for the fog lights. Due to the larger sills, the side profile is stronger. The rear bumper has been given a prominent look with the vertical lower lights.

Opel states that the front apron and side sills as well as the rear apron lips come in the same color of the body. They can also be ordered in one of six metallic colors or one of two brilliant lacquers. Buyers will only be able tick the OPC Line Sport Pack box in the Astra’s options menu if they choose the Active, Dynamic or Innovation trim levels.

A sporty body kit is great, but we’re eager to see the more powerful versions of this five-door hatch. The GSi will be the first model to go into production with a 1.6-liter turbo that will produce more than the 200 horsepower (147 kilowatts), available in the Astra GSi. Opel might be kind enough to display the Astra at next month’s Paris Motor Show. Opel won’t be offended by it considering that the hottest Astra has been confirmed for a 2017 launch with 209 kW (209 HP).
