It will be constructed at the PSA Zaragoza plant in Spain.
Vauxhall and Opel are now part of the PSA family. The two companies have pledged to build more vehicles over the next few years. All of them will be loaded with more technology. We already know that a new van is on its way and that the company will soon be building an electric Corsa hatchback.
Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller today announced that the Opel/Vauxhall Corsa would be entirely electric and will be manufactured at the company’s Zaragoza (Spain) manufacturing plant starting in 2019. Deliveries to customers are expected in the early 2020s. This plant will be Europe’s first to produce an Opel/Vauxhall fully electric vehicle.
Michael Lohscheller, Opel CEO, said that this was a significant step forward for the Zaragoza factory and marked the beginning of a new age. “This is a significant result that shows mutual trust and confidence among all stakeholders. Zaragoza will continue playing an important part in Groupe PSA’s industrial footprint.”
The Corsa, powered by a battery, will be joining the electric , which is basically the Chevy Bolt’s European counterpart, as the only fully electric vehicles in this lineup. Opel and Vauxhall dealers were reportedly so overwhelmed by Ampera-e orders that they told dealers to cease selling the vehicle in October. Opel is hopeful that the Corsa will have the same success.
Vauxhall, Opel, and Corsa will be adding three electrified vehicles in 2020 to their portfolio. The goal is to have all its cars electrified by 2024. All of this is part of the company’s strategic plan, PACE.
