The Telegraph reports that the front seats in the Audi RS4 have been stolen from the United Kingdom.
Antony Noto, the owner of a Bristol-based alarm firm, said that around 30 cases of theft of seats were reported last year in London. Most of these were RS4s or S-Line versions from other Audi models. The thieves are mainly targeting the RS4 B7 model manufactured between 2006-2008. It has leather-wrapped bucket seat cushions that Audi stopped making a few years back.
Because these seats are not readily available, they cost 19,000 GBP to replace them. They have to import the parts and build the seats from scratch. Five Oaks Audi mechanic Daniel Parsons says the entire process takes 20 hours and costs 132 GBP an hour.
Audi produced only about 2,000 units in 2008 and 2006 of the RS4 so it is unlikely that there would be a high demand. These stolen bucket seats are not necessarily used in another RS4; many people install them on lower-end cars. This is a trend known as OEM-plus, where original parts from higher-end models are put into lower-end vehicles.
