Finally, after ten years.

People who lived through the 1990s will have witnessed one of the most iconic Japanese mid-engine sports cars, the HondaNSX. Also known as the Acura in America, this car was a great example of Japanese mid-engine sports cars. If you are lucky enough to have it, you might have one in your garage.

Since 2010, Honda NSX owners Japan have enjoyed a restoration program. There are many aftermarket businesses that can restore your NSX to its original glory. However, it is best to have it refurbished directly from the factory.

This premise is only applicable to those who reside in Japan or who can ship their cars to/from the Land of the Rising Sun. It’s not an easy task if you live in the U.S. but there is a new development regarding the NSX restoration programme.

John Watts, Acura’s senior manager for the NSX Team said that Acura is considering the adoption the NSX restoration plan for U.S.-owners. This information was shared by Tire Meets Road during a Zoom meeting at the 2020 Acura NSXPO Virtual Meetup.

Watts stated that the program is still being researched to determine if there is interest from NSX owners. Not to be overlooked, less than 9,000 original NSX units have been sold in the United States – many of these are still in excellent running condition.

But don’t expect a NSX restore or refresh to be cheap. The Tire Meets Road report gives an estimate of the cost of a basic exterior cleaning and a $38,000 total makeover. This is after paying a $1,200 inspection fee.
