A crash that resulted in the destruction of an early Pagani C9 prototype supercar is being blamed on the driver of the prototype Pagani C9. Initial reports indicate that the driver lost control of his vehicle while driving on Stuttgart’s Autobahn B14.
The driver was transported to the hospital by paramedics with non-critical injuries. It is capable of reaching lethal speeds due to its 6.0-liter V12 engine, which produces 690 horsepower (515 kW/ 700 PS) as well as up to 1000 Nm (738 feet-lb) of torque.
The one-car accident resulted in no other injuries.
It is not yet clear how much the accident will impact Pagani engineers working on the Zonda replacement. The C9 is being prepared for its debut at the Paris Motor Show in six months. A market release will follow shortly after. The car was spotted in northern Sweden this month after being tested in South Africa.
It is possible that the testing car in Johannesburg that had two tailpipes may have been the same vehicle that crashed in Germany. Although the exact cost of the accident is not known, the final version of the Pagani C9 may retail at EUR900,000.
