It was $350,000 in those days, and probably much more today. Maybe not.
Pagani continued to work on Zondas in September 2021, even though the original supercar was launched back in 1999. We’re talking today about a special edition (aren’t they all?) Since the C12S was introduced in 2000 as an evolution of the company’s first supercar, it has been a part of the early days of the rear-wheel-drive, mid-engined speed machine.
There are still a few questions about how many units were produced. Some reports say Pagani made only five, while others claim 12 were built. One of the cars has been removed from the road, however we do know that a bright yellow one was also destroyed in the Czech Republic. Although details are scarce, initial reports indicate that the accident occurred on a twisty road outside Prague, the capital of the country. It is important that the driver did not suffer any serious injuries when the car collided with a tree and fell into a ditch. The rear end and side profiles appear to be fine, but the front clamshell is in worse shape. After the supercar’s short off-road adventure, we wouldn’t rule out some damage to the underbody. An evolution of the C12, the S version featured an enlarged naturally aspirated 7.0-liter AMG engine developing a meaty 550 hp whereas the smaller-but-still-huge 6.0-liter unit made 395 hp. The engine’s power was sent to the rear axle via a six-speed manual gearbox. One small error can cause you to lose control, as there were no electronic aids back then and the power went to only two wheels.
The C12S will probably live another day after being returned to the Pagani shop to go through the official restore program, which was launched in 2017. Horacio stated that “to restore the light and splendor of these masterpieces was a pleasure as much as a great responsibility” when it was first introduced four years ago. This particular masterpiece needs to be treated by Pagani, we can all agree.
