Karma Automotive is known for making low-slung vehicles with elegant designs since its inception. These luxury electric vehicles can be found in 36 locations throughout its global dealer network. The flagship Revero GT sedan is the most prominent.
It seems that the Irvine-based automaker is poised to enter the SUV market just like any other. This was revealed by a patent filing at US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). You can see seven images of the Karma SUV in the patent filing.
The claim for the 15-year patent was submitted on April 29, 2019. The SUV is a coupe-like design, which is not surprising considering the popularity of this body style in recent years. The upcoming Karma SUV, or at least the submission, is low-slung. This could indicate a sporty side to the large vehicle that will be above the Revero/GT models.
The patent drawings are reminiscent of the Karma models’ current design with their long hoods and narrow headlights. It’s almost like a union between the Maserati Levante & Porsche Cayenne Coupe, with the LED bar connecting the taillights.
Karma Automotive is not the only company that has expressed an interest in joining the electric SUV market. This possibility was hinted at in a Bloomberg report from early last year, and even suggested building an electronic pickup truck.
Further solidifying this was a NHTSA filing discovered later in the year that showed a future Karma lineup which included a coupe and a convertible as well as a large SUV, wagon, and pickup truck.
Electrification is the future of Karma, regardless of what its future holds. A plug-in hybrid, extended range model could also be on the horizon.
