Rear steering is very efficient with 840 horsepower
Penzoil has been on a roll with its short action video library, and Dodge appears to be the preferred manufacturer for the top roles. This kind of four-wheeled fun was last seen four months ago when Penzoil’s tribute to the Viper saw speeding through Miami in a daytime sprint. The setting this time is gritty Pittsburgh night. While the car is well-known for being a drag strip beast, there is still plenty of sideways action with the 840 horsepower Dodge Challenger RT Demon.
This is especially true when Rhys Millen, rallycross and drifting star, is behind the wheel.
The video is appropriately titled Exorcising Demon. It starts at a church, but there are no important plot points to worry about. The crew collaborated with the city to block streets so filming could continue. You can expect the rest to be what you would see when a unleashed Dodge Challenger with 840 horsepower is faced with the possibility of turning. It’s great fun.
The Demon’s impressive straight-line acceleration and clever dragstrip features have been the focus of almost all the attention since its unveiling. Our Demon’s first drive was almost entirely quarter-mile focused. The last two paragraphs were devoted to the relative road comfort provided by the Hellcat’s softer spring rates. This video will be the first glimpse at what a Demon can accomplish when turning is involved for most people.
Millen’s view on the subject may be a little biased, but it is still a valid point. Millen does manage a nice 360-degree spin amid all the perfectly balanced oversteer. The most interesting part is the “text message” from Germany asking if the driver can handle the ring. Is there a Demon in Green Hell?
We will just have to continue watching, which is precisely what Penzoil wants.
