The Toyota Yaris GR hatchback is the hottest of the moment. However, it isn’t coming to the United States largely due to the version in America being a completely different vehicle from the rest of the world. a Change.org petition is asking for the automaker’s approval to bring this exciting model to North America. It’s as simple as that:
The petition now has 470 supporters, just three days after it was created. Although it is unlikely that Toyota will bring the Yaris GR North America, this initiative must be taken. Motor1.com Toyota has been contacted for comment.
The 1.6-liter turbocharged, three-cylinder engine in the Yaris GR produces 257 horsepower (192 kilowatts), and 266 poundfeet (360 Newton meters) in Europe and 268 hp (268 kW) in Japan. The hot hatch is available in both a six-speed manual transmission and an all-wheel drive with Torsen limited slip differentials on both the front and back.
Toyota claims that this setup can propel the European version the speedy Yaris up to 62 mph (100 km/h) in a little over 5.5 seconds. It also has an electronically limited top speed limit of 143 mph (229 kph). The Japanese model has more power, but the company isn’t saying if it means faster acceleration.
The Yaris GR is just 2,822 pounds (1.280 kilograms). This is due to the use carbon fiber polymer as well as aluminum. The roofline is 3.6 inches (91 mm) high, creating a sporty silhouette.
In the second half 2020, deliveries of the Yaris GR will begin in Europe as well as Japan.
