However, an electric version is in the works.
The new Peugeot 308 is undoubtedly one of the most attractive hatchbacks available on the European market. The most powerful plug-in hybrid model has 225 horsepower (168kilowatts), but it appears that it will continue to be the model’s top-of-the-line model.
According to TopGear, there will not be a 308 GTI and 308 Sport Engineered. This isn’t speculation. Jerome Micheron (Peugeot’s product director) confirmed the information to the publication. He told TopGear that “if you look at sporty versions and the CO2 regulations it has collapsed.”yj
Early reports suggested that a PHEV all-wheel drive hot hatch could be built on the 308. Early reports suggested a potential PHEV all-wheel-drive hot hatch based on the new 308.
Peugeot’s press release regarding the launch of the new 308 did not include information about an all-electric version. As Micheron confirmed to British publication, it is “in our roadmap”. However, long before Micheron, the French automaker will release a wagon model of the new Peugeot 308.
Peugeot had two options when it began development. Although the first platform was used by Citroen for its C4, it was too simple for the 308. Peugeot eventually opted for EMP, which allows more freedom in design, technologies and electrification.
The new Peugeot 308 will be made in France, and will begin arriving at Peugeot dealers across Europe by the second half.
