Who says that swanky styling must suffer in the conversion from hatchback to wagon?

We can all agree that Peugeot produces some of the most beautiful cars. We are hopeful that the shorter, more elegant 308 sedan will look just as appealing in the wagon body.

There are plenty of reasons to believe that its estate cousin will also be a standout. Although the five-door model was revealed a week ago by Motor1.com, we have an unofficial rendering from Kolesa of the more family-friendly variant.

The wagon’s greater cargo capacity is, undoubtedly, the main reason people choose it over the hatch. It is important to have the practical 308 because the trunk volume of the regular model has decreased from 420 liters (14.8 cuft) to 412 Liters (14.5 cuft). It is unusual for a car with a smaller trunk than its predecessor. This is especially true since the 2022 Peugeot 308 has grown in size.

The wagon will solve this problem, taking into consideration that the 308 SW had 660 liters (23.3 cuft) of storage. The next-generation model will still have plenty of room for the whole family, including their luggage, even though the hatch’s volume may be slightly lower. It will feature a tall roofline and a boxy rear end, which should maximize the space behind the rear bench.

The Peugeot 308 hatchback will be available in Europe starting in the second half. There are enough reasons to believe that the wagon will soon follow, possibly before 2021. According to various reports, there will be another body style. It is likely to look like a sedan but with a coupe-like roofline. It is expected to arrive in 2022 and will feature the same gasoline, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains that the 308 models.

The 308 lineup will not receive a performance model. Peugeot recently stated that the market for hot hatches is too small to justify a new GTi. This means that there won’t even be an electrified Peugeot Sports Engineered version to go with the 355-horsepower 508 PSE, which is the company’s most powerful road vehicle.
