French carmaker transforms its stylish sedan into an elegant wagon.
French automaker Peugeot unveiled a stylish 508 sedan earlier this year. The exterior design of the 508 is striking, as well as its luxurious interior. Peugeot, being the European manufacturer it is, has added a new body style for the 508 lineup: a station wagon. The 508 SW is a more elegant version of the sedan with a longer roof and hatch at its rear. This increases interior capacity and versatility and gives it a more attractive package.
The SW’s pronounced nose continues from the sedan to its SW counterpart with many sharp design lines at the front. The 508 SW’s scalloped side creates a graceful curve that flows down to the rear taillight housing. It is the same design as the sedan. The rear features a PEUGEOT lettering, located just below the glass.
The 508 SW is equipped with Peugeot’s i-Cockpit, which has been widely used across its range of products. The 508 SW receives the same small steering wheel as the sedan’s 12.3-inch panel and the same high-mounted instrument panel. A centrally mounted 10-inch touchscreen gives you access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Peugeot Mirrorlink, 3D navigation, and more.
The stylish exterior is complemented by a variety of safety technology. Peugeot offers infrared night vision, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, parking assistance, automatic emergency brake, lane keep aid, lane high beams, street sign recognition and blind spot monitoring.
The same engines that power the 508 sedan will also be used to generate power. A 1.6-liter gasoline engine will produce either 177 horsepower (132kilowatts), or 222 horsepower (165 kW). The only transmission available with the 1.6-liter engine is an eight-speed automatic. Customers have the choice of one of three diesel engines, ranging from 1.5 to 2.0 Liters in size. The power outputs are 128 horsepower (95 kW), 158, hp (128 kW), and 178, hp (122 kW). Only the 128-hp engine is available for a six-speed manual. The only other gearbox available is the eight speed automatic. A gasoline-plug-in hybrid version 508 SW will be available in the second half 2019.
North America is prohibited from eating the Peugeot 508 SW. It is a station wagon. However, wagons – even hatches- inevitably suffer from the influx of SUVs and crossovers that demand customer dollars. The 508 SW is stylish, loaded with technology and has a luxurious interior. The 508 SW will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, before it goes on sale in Europe in January 2019.
