Peugeot Considering Convertible, Hybrid, and Even Faster Versions of RCZ

The future may see a more powerful version of the RCZ, similar to the Porsche 911-like RCZ ‘Targa’.

According to reports, the French volume car manufacturer is considering a faster version RCZ to make it more competitive against the Audi TT.

Marjorie Lhullier, RCZ production chief, said that the RCZ could offer a ‘Targa-type model similar to the Porsche 911. She says that if we could make a targa like the Porsche 911 with the RCZ double bubble roof, it would be amazing.

To be eligible for ‘Targa’ status, the RCZ must have a stronger engine than the current range-topping 1.6 liter turbo with 200 bhp. The RCZ is a 1275-kg car. However, the 1.6 liter turbo can take it from 0-60 mph (100 km/h), in 7.6 seconds.

Lhullier also suggests that a diesel-hybrid may also be in the future, with 200 bhp.

Peugeot’s RCZ model will target a different customer demographic than its other cabriolet/coupe models. The 207CC as well as the 308CC are heavily aimed towards female drivers.

The RCZ will be available in the U.K at a starting price of less than PS20,000 (22.855 euros). The model will go on sale in spring 2010.
