Peugeot Landtrek Pickup Truck Introduces 4x4, Three Body Styles

This one-ton workhorse is available for sale without a rear bumper. It will allow for a 180-degree tailgate opening.

Although Peugeot is not a well-known brand in the truck market, it has made a number of reliable workhorses through the years. Examples include the 504 and 404 pickups, as well as the Hoggar (207-based) and the Pick Up (a newer model for Africa that was launched almost three years ago. The company sporting the lion badge will double its truck efforts by launching the Landtrek, an one-ton pickup initially designed for Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Landtrek is a joint venture between Peugeot and Chinese automaker Changan. It is based on a new platform, and it has a sibling in Changan Kaicheng F70 that was revealed almost a year ago.

The Landtrek follows the highly-acclaimed design language of the company and is available in single, double, and chassis cab versions. Peugeot will offer the Landtrek in two versions: “Workhorse”, and “Multipurpose”. There are many accessories for professionals and families. They all measure 1.92m (75.6 inches wide) and have a length of 5.39m (212.2 inches) and 5.33m (210 inches respectively) for the single cab models.

Peugeot Landtrek has covered over 2 million km (1.24M miles), of testing on every surface and weather conditions during its development phase. It is expected to have a payload up to 1.2 tonnes and a towing capability of 3 tons. Workhorse single-cab models will not have a rear bumper. They also feature a 180-degree opening Tailgate. Some versions can achieve ground clearances of 235 mm (9.2 in).

The Landtrek is available in 4×2 or 4×4 configurations. It will be powered at 210 HP and 320 Nm (236lb-ft). It can be controlled via either a six speed Getrag manual transmission or an automatic Punch transmission with the same number gears. The latter will allow the driver to choose between three modes: Eco, Sport, or sequential. A 1.9-liter diesel engine with 150 horsepower and 350 Nm (258lb-ft), is also available. It can be linked to the manual ‘box, and is available in 4×2 or 4×4 versions.

The Peugeot Landtrek weighs 1,950 kg (4,300 lbs) in double-cab form with rear wheel drive and engine. The 4×4 double-cab 4×4 with the manual is 2,030 kg (4.475 lbs), while the 4×4 double-cab 4×4 with the automatic weighs in at 2,060 kg (4,541 pounds).

It was not designed to break Nurburgring lap record times, so the fastest version can run the 0-62mph (0-100km/h) sprint in 11.2 second for the 4×4 gasoline engine model with the automatic transmission. Then it can reach 110 mph (177 km/h).

It is reminiscent of other Peugeot models when you step inside the cabin. These include the two-spoke steering wheels from the 3008, and the 10-inch touchscreen from 508. The interior is one of the best in the pickup truck market, offering a choice between a two-seater or three-seater bench at the front. The rear seats fold down to support up to 100 kg (220 pounds). Additional versatility is provided by 25 liters (8.8 cubic feet) of interior storage.

Peugeot will offer the Landtrek with a wide range of options, from automatic dual-zone climate and LED headlights/taillights to trailer swing controller. There will be up to four cameras, with an off-road camera integrated into the passenger’s rearview mirror. Safety systems include hill descent control and six airbags, as well as ESP and lane departure warning.
