You would think he would at least get one.
In the early 2000’s, James Bond was set to release its 20th movie, Die Another Day. This film would also mark Pierce Brosnan’s fourth and final appearance as the secret agent. It would also feature Aston Martin’s return to the DB5 in Goldeneye. The idea of a British secret agent driving a British supercar flagship was huge news. BMW has been providing Bond’s vehicles since the end of Goldeneye. Die Another daywas the opportunity for the V12 Vanquish’s to make a strong marketing splash or at least to have a lot of explosions with rockets and other gadgets. The truth is that Pierce Brosnan had to convince Aston Martin and give him one as compensation.
Brosnan speaks in a casual video interview with Esquire about his films, James Bond’s portrayal, and the challenges that he faced over his four film career. The first question was about the Aston Martin. He explained that he was certain he would get one. He would have to work hard for the film and the participation of the automaker in the film assured that they could spare one car.
However, this wasn’t true. Brosnan, when he learned of the truth, said that he wouldn’t be stepping near the car during the press conference. The back-and-forths, and perhaps even the threats, were handled by his agent. Aston Martin finally gave in to Pierce Brosnan’s request and made him his personal “handbuilt for Pierce Brosnan Vanquish”.
The exact car he had longed for was destroyed in a fire at his Malibu home, California in February 2015.
