For many years, the two companies have been in partnership.
Pirelli unveiled the custom-made tires it developed for the new BMW 8.
The super coupe, which is the top-of-the-line version of the new 8 Series, effectively replaces BMW’s flagship high-performance grand tourer M6 – the closest thing the Bavarian brand has to a supercar.
The 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine powers all M8 models. It produces 625 horsepower through a four wheel-drive system in the highest trim level of “Competition”. This engine is capable of reaching 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h), in 3.2 seconds, and has a maximum speed of 155 mph (295 km/h).
Pirelli continues to work on the car in a partnership that dates back many years. It used its P Zero product to create the perfect fit for the car’s driving characteristics.
This development means that the BMW-homologated tires are more efficient than the P-Zeros. They have a star on the sidewall and offer better performance under braking and on track.
The P-Zero can be modified to adapt the tread pattern. This, in addition to altering driving characteristics, optimizes noise levels when the tire is rolling. The tire carcasses were made from different layers (275/35 ZR 20, rear, and 285/35 ZR 20, respectively). The rear tires have an asymmetrical carcass structure while the front tires have a symmetrical one.
