The range is up to 270 miles
It was one year ago that Polestar first announced the availability of a single-motor version. It was driven in September. However, the model is only now being offered to US dealers. The starting price is $47,200 (includes $1,300 destination fee). This price could be lower if you take advantage of federal and state incentives.
The single motor Polestar 2 is now available in addition to the dual-motor version. The all-electric vehicle can travel 270 miles on a single battery charge, according to the EPA. The single motor setup powers the front wheels and produces 231 horsepower (172 Kilowatts) as well as 243 pound-feet (329 Newton-meters). It gets its power from a 78-kilowatt-hour-battery pack – 75 kWh are usable. It can charge up to 155-kW DC Charging, which can be used to charge the EV between 10 and 80 percent in just 33 minutes.
The Polestar now has 2x the range of its single-motor counterpart. The 2022 dual-motor variant of the Polestar has 249 miles range and more horsepower.
All variants of Polestar are available with the Plus or Pilot upgrade packs, which cost $4,000 or $3,200 respectively. The Plus pack includes a mechanical heatpump that extends the car’s range and a WeaveTech vegan inside, a Harmon Kardon 13-speaker audio system, and a full length panoramic glass roof. The Pilot pack includes enhanced safety features such as adaptive cruise control, Polestar Pilot Assist and blind-spot monitor. Over-the-air updates can be provided to the car, which has already proven useful. An OTA update last year added 67 hp (50 kilowatts), and 50 lb/ft (20 Nm), to select European market models.
Polestar’s expansion in the US will allow it to continue its growth. Polestar 2 will help the company sell 65,000 units globally in 2016. Although it doesn’t have the same horsepower as other EVs but, mainstream electric vehicles don’t need to be spectacular to draw customers. Buyers still consider the range of a car’s capabilities, but the 270-mile single motor Polestar 2 should make this easier.
