The winners’ designs will be made into reality to take part in a worldwide tour.
Automakers are not new to design contests that allow amateur and professional designers to participate. Lexus has done so since 2013, while Rolls-Royce did one for a younger group of designers, which was held during the height of the pandemic.
Polestar The first contest was launched by, which is itself the recipient of many design awards. The competition was open to both student and professional designers. You can now see the works of the winners in this gallery.
The contest’s theme was purity. Contestants were asked to design a future vision of mobility. The contestants were required to design a new Polestar for 2040. It would not only include a car, but also feature the most pure designs and follow Polestar’s design philosophy.
According to Polestar there were hundreds of entries. Submissions came from India, South Korea and Japan as well as the United States, Sweden. Brazil, Poland, Poland, and China.
Polerad Cholewka, from Poland, wins the Polestar Design Contest in the professional category. His design, dubbed “Polestar MMXL”, features two geometric shapes as well as an inclusive, self-contained pod with a flexible, interior design.
Siddhesh Bhogale, an Indian student, won the category with his “Polestar 40”, which you can see at the top of this page. This is the airship of tomorrow, which combines Polestar design and a 21st century aviation theme. This “Spanning” electric yacht from Brazil, designed by Arthur Martins, gets an honorable mention. It offers an alternative to traditional mobility.
The 1:5 scale models of the winning designs will be displayed in a virtual exhibit. The model will then go on a worldwide tour and appear at Polestar Spaces in North America, Europe, China.
