It’s not easy, however.
We were just beginning March when we first spotted one of the most beautiful cars we’ll ever see. The unveiling of O2 by Volvo’s electric spinoff brand Polestar surprised us. The O2 was a hardtop convertible with four seats that rode on the same aluminum bonded platform as the Polestar 5. The Polestar 1 plug in hybrid performance coupe would be a great flagship. It could happen. It’s possible, but it is unlikely. Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, sat down with us and had a conversation.
Top Gear Magazine about the prospects for selling the O2: My ambition is to make it into a production car. But it’s not easy. It’s important to understand the complexity. We must see where the O2 is heading. It’s important to let a painting rest after you have finished painting it. Then, look at it again after a few months to see if it still looks good.
Polestar’s 2+2 electric roadster was the star of the Polestar presence at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed. With the promise of a future range-topping version with almost 900 horsepower, the Polestar 5 prototype also visited West Sussex. Thomas Ingenlath stated that electric engines are “amazing” and he was right. It’s amazing, it’s great, and it is super to do that. And you can even imagine the car you will get there.
Polestar kept the details of the O2’s technical specifications secret when it was first shown. It’s possible to see the concept as a two-door Precept with a folding hardtop. It’s also a stylish version of the Polestar 5 production version, which will be released in late 2023. It boasts a staggering 900 Newton-meters (664-pound-feet!) of torque. Similar to the Polestar1, of which 1,500 were made, the O2 would allow Volvo to really put Polestar on top of the automotive industry.
