Online ordering is possible.
It’s not easy to change the car-buying experience due to franchise laws and ensconced dealership lobbyist groups. Take a look at Tesla, and all the difficulties it has had trying to sell directly to its customers. Tesla is now in trouble because some states prohibit automakers from selling direct to consumers. Polestar is a Volvo sub-brand that will attempt to change this.
Polestar’s Chief Executive Officer Thomas Ingenlath says, “Launching a completely new brand of car gives us the chance to assess what customers love about car ownership and what they don’t like,” “We also want the hassle out of traditional car ownership.”
Polestar 1 starts production testing
Customers can now search, order, and configure cars online. Customers can view a car in a franchised Polestar Space if they wish to order it. Customers will be able to interact with non-commissioned experts, not sales staff, who will give any information that they require. These “spaces” offer pickup and delivery services so customers don’t have wait at dealerships while their vehicle is serviced.
Polestar also offers a subscription service to customers, similar to Care By Volvo. Customers can pay almost all costs associated with ownership, including maintenance and insurance. Customers only have to pay gas.

Polestar currently has one vehicle – the Polestar 1. It is a hybrid coupe with 600+ horsepower that will go into production in mid-2019. Unfortunately, it is not available for purchase. About 200 cars were delivered to North America in the first year of production. The company will unveil its second model, Polestar 2, in early 2019. This will be the first fully-battery electric vehicle that can compete with the Tesla Model 3.
