This is a lot of love for the now defunct GM brand.
Pontiac closed its doors 10 years ago. This marked a void in American automotive history. Pontiac fans are keen to preserve the marque’s history by creating a museum that will focus on Pontiac cars (and other GM classics). What is the location? Of course, in Pontiac (Michigan).
Pontiac Transportation Museum already owns a building measuring 55,000 square feet to be its new home. It is an old grade school building that will be repurposed to become its site. The museum will be documented on the website (see source link down). It is slated to be a venue for special events, vehicle shows/conventions and business meetings. A museum store will be available for Pontiac merchandise.
The museum has 45 vehicles according to its progress report, as of October 2020. The museum’s progress report for October 2020 shows that 45 vehicles have been added. Tim Dye, who is responsible for the Pontiac-inspired museum said that he has 55 cars and 12 Pontiac models. The current lineup also includes classic cars, which have made a significant contribution to the automotive history in Pontiac.
Dye expects to attract approximately 50,000 people each year. Dye plans to open the museum for public viewing in 2012. Fundraising is a major obstacle to Dye’s grand opening. She cites the COVID-19 Pandemic, which is the largest problem in fundraising, as one of her biggest hurdles. These facade renderings should give an idea of what the final look of the building could be. Dye hopes to increase awareness of the museum through the Motor Bella outdoor car show in Michigan in September and, eventually, to find more people to finance the project.
