Porsche 718 Spyder Spied Testing With Four-Cylinder Engine

It was captured at the Nurburgring so it may not be a China-only version.

The 718 Spyder was launched in China by Porsche this week. There’s a surprise in the specs sheet as the retro-flavored convertible swaps the flat-six in favor of a smaller four banger. Our spy team has now captured a prototype of the new flavor at the Nurburgring. This could indicate that Stuttgart’s peeps plan to sell the car beyond the People’s Republic.

It has a 2.0-liter engine, not the 4.0-liter. How can we tell? The bumper at the front has smaller intakes, making it look less aggressive than the Spyder 414-horsepower . Mirroring the Chinese version, the rear bumper now has the exhaust tips placed next to each other in central.

The 718 Spyder, which is available in the most populous country in the world, has 295 hp (380 Nm) and 280 lbft (380 Nm), or 120 hp (41 Nm), less than the international version. The 0-60 mph (100 km/h), 4.7 second run, makes it 0.8 seconds slower than the global Boxster Spyder equipped with PDK. The top speed drops from 270 km/h to 167 mph (20 mph)

Turbocharging is now available for the Spyder CN-spec Spyder. Needless to state, this is one of the major differences between the two versions. This removes some of its appeal, but it is a good decision in China where the taxes are high for larger engines.

It’s likely that some people would not mind having a four-cylinder Spyder in America and Europe, as it would be much more affordable. Flat-six models start at $100,000 with the manual, and $103,000 with PDK in the US. A variant with a smaller engine would be less expensive than the six-figure price.
